was given a bail Thursday in court. If he makes the bond, he will be held on house arrest.

As of Thursday evening, Cyrus Ahyoung had not posted the $60,000 bond, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s booking blotter website. If he is released, he will be put on house arrest and must wear an ankle monitor. It is unclear if the home will be the same residence he barricaded himself in.

Jupiter Police said Ahyoung barricaded himself in townhome on Cat Rock Lane in the Abacoa neighborhood west of Military Trail “heavily armed” between Sunday and Monday afternoon. The day before, he held his girlfriend and her children captive at gunpoint for at least two hours Saturday threatening to kill them all because he didn’t feel appreciated, according to the police report.

The family was in court Thursday, but did not speak with the media.

DELRAY BEACH — City police are searching for three men who allegedly targeted an older woman in a distraction theft this week.

The men stole jewelry from the woman Wednesday while posing as pest control exterminators, police said. According to a Facebook posting by the police department, a man in his 20s knocked on a 79-year-old woman’s door Tuesday and told her that he and two others would be back the following day to do an extermination at the house behind hers. On Wednesday afternoon, two other men reportedly knocked on the woman’s door and told her they would need to spray her grass for  brown recluse spiders.

One of the men was believed to be in his 50s and the other was in his 70s, police said.

The men asked the woman for a bucket of hot water and followed her into her laundry room. One of the men sprayed an unknown substance on the woman’s hands, police said. He quickly apologized and told the woman to remove her rings and wash her hands.

One of the men then distracted the woman while the other slipped into her bedroom and stole jewelry, including a ring that the woman had just taken off, police said.

The woman told police all three men spoke English with a heavy accent and they also may have been speaking in Greek or Romanian.

Police are asking residents to use caution when answering an unexpected knock at the door. Residents should avoid giving such persons access to their homes. Anyone who believes they may have encountered the suspects, or has been a victim of a similar distraction theft, is asked to call the nearest law enforcement agency.

22 years later, Martin County Sheriff reopen missing persons case

Twenty-two years after an 80-year-old woman went missing from her home in Jensen Beach, law-enforcement officers have reopened the case in hopes of finding out what ever happened to beloved Mable Lee Tresner.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has decided to renew its efforts to find Tresner, who mysteriously disappeared from her residence in 1993. The department acknowledges they are probably looking for her remains, because Tresner would now be 102, but they said they want to close the case.

Between Aug. 16 and 17 20 years ago, Tresner disappeared without any notice from her mobile home on Northeast 15th Terrace, off Baker Road and about 3 miles southeast of the Treasure Coast Square mall. According to original media reports, the woman lived alone but was of sound mind and health.

On the morning of Aug. 17, a friend was supposed to pick her up for her usual day of charity work, but later told investigators she wasn’t home. Later that day, Tresner’s daughter went to check on her and found the front door unlocked but her mother nowhere to be seen. The woman’s purse, glasses and dentures remained untouched inside.

For days, law enforcement searched by air, boat and foot with dogs and officers around the area with no sign of the woman. There were witness reports of an elderly woman matching her description walking barefoot in a nightgown along U.S. 1 in Stuart, but the sightings were never confirmed.

“The police have absolutely no idea where she is,” said Tresner’s daughter, Joan Malloni told The Palm Beach Post in 1993.

Many believed at the time Tresner had suffered some kind of medical episode that affected her brain and made her wander off lost in the woods or water near her home.

But according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office announcing the reopening of the case Thursday, foul play may have been involved in the woman’s disappearance.

“Because of certain evidence found inside of the home at the time, detectives could not rule out foul play. In fact, foul play is likely.”

The sheriff’s office did not disclose what was found in the home that may have led them to that conclusion.

The sheriff’s office asks anyone with information on this case to call Detective Christopher Morales at 772-220-7087.

NORTH PALM BEACH –  A 30-year-old woman started a fire in her mother’s home last week while trying to hide a hot crack pipe in a bathroom linen closet, village police said.

Police say Juliana Broverio hid the pipe Thursday as her mother and two children were returning to their home, east of Anchorage Park. North Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens firefighters put out the fire in a guest bathroom before it could spread to the rest of the residence, according to probable-cause affidavit made public Monday.

The fire was deemed suspicious and investigators found a makeshift crack pipe on the floor of the bathroom, the affidavit said. Broverio denied any involvement in the fire, but she allegedly later admitted to smoking the crack pipe in the bathroom.

She told deputies she heard the garage door open and quickly hid the hot pipe under a towel in the closet, the affidavit said. Broverio’s mother said she had been home for about 20 minutes and was making a sandwich when she smelled smoke.

Broverio was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree arson, possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect. She remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail late Monday in lieu of $16,000 bail.

A 37-year-old Lantana  man was arrested last week after he alleged stabbed his girlfriend and her brother.

Fesh Pierre was taken into custody Saturday and is facing a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The alleged stabbings took place early Friday south of Lantana at a home on Oleander Road, south of Hypoluxo Road and west of U.S. 1.

Pierre was released Sunday from the Palm Beach County Jail on $20,000 bail.

His girlfriend reportedly told deputies she was sleeping on a couch in the living room when she heard someone knock at the front door. The woman’s father answered the door and Pierre entered, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit made public Monday. He reportedly went to kitchen and spoke to his girlfriend moments later, telling her he had calmed down after a prior dispute.

The woman said Pierre went to a  bathroom and, when he came out, stabbed her in the stomach and the arm. Her brother tackled Pierre and was stabbed in the leg, the affidavit said. Pierre reportedly then fled the scene.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue paramedics treated the stabbing victims at the scene. Pierre allegedly broke out the front kitchen window before leaving.

A Lake Worth man is accused of beating his roommate and even trying to stab her during a fit of rage early Sunday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Martin Jesus Gordon, 21, was arguing loudly with his 20-year-old roommate Sunday morning, according to a probable-cause affidavit made public Tuesday. The roommate left the apartment with her brother, but soon returned after Gordon apologized for his behavior, she told police.

After she shut the apartment door, Gordon resumed arguing with the victim and punched her several times in the face, deputies said. The victim tried to hit Gordon in self-defense.

The victim’s brother tried to break up the fight by grabbing Gordon, who then went into the kitchen and brought back a knife, the affidavit said. Gordon swung the knife several times, trying to stab his roommate, while her brother held him back, the victim told police.

The brother told deputies that something “horrible” would have happened had he not held onto Gordon, the affidavit said.

The victim had redness on her forehead from where she was punched, as well as bite marks on her stomach, according to deputies.

Gordon is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple battery. He was being held late Tuesday on $13,000 bail in the Palm Beach County Jail.

An employee at a Delray Beach Mercedes Benz dealership stole a gun from a car dropped off for service, Delray Beach police say.

Christian James Jackson, 21, drove the victim’s 2012 Mercedes after it was dropped off for service Sept. 8. The victim reported the gun missing from its center console when he got the Mercedes back one week later, police report.

Surveillance footage retrieved by police Sept. 23 shows Jackson park the car and remain inside for several minutes, then hide the Springfield 9mm handgun in nearby bushes, their report said.

He is seen in the footage an hour later pulling up to the bushes in a white Toyota and retrieving the gun, according to officers.

Jackson hadn’t returned to work since Sept. 8, employees told police.

He contacted managers at the dealership, on Linton Boulevard just west of Interstate 95, asking for his last paycheck, police say. When confronted about the stolen weapon by a manager, Jackson said, “Well, if I were to give the gun back, would that help me out?”

Jackson told police that he spent two weeks trying to figure out a way to bring the gun back to the dealership, the report said. Police recovered the fully loaded handgun and arrested Jackson.

He is being held on $3,000 bail at Palm Beach County Jail.

WEST PALM BEACH — A man accused of driving a stolen minivan was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly crashed through a metal fence while trying to elude city police officers.

Will J. Perkins, 47, of West Palm Beach is facing charges of grand theft auto and giving false identification to a law enforcement officer.  He was being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday night in lieu of $3,000 bail.

According to police, an officer was in the area of 25th Street and Tamarind Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. Monday and assisting another with a disabled vehicle call when he noticed a blue Dodge caravan traveling north on Tamarind. The minivan had been reported as stolen about an hour earlier.

The driver, later identified as Perkins, fled west on 25th Court and continued along various streets before returning to northbound Tamarind,  according to a police probable-cause arrest affidavit.

The driver’s door was cracked open slightly as if Perkins planned to jump out at any moment, police said.  He drove through a black metal fence at a dead-end on Tamarind Avenue. Perkins and an unidentified passenger then bailed out of the minivan.

Perkins tumbled to the ground and was quickly arrested. After being taken into custody, he gave officers a false name and date of birth, the affidavit said.

The report does not indicate whether police were able to apprehend Perkins’ passenger.

RIVIERA BEACH – A city teen out to make some quick money used a fake gun to rob and carjack a woman as she ordered food at a KFC drive-through this month, city police said.

On Tuesday, authorities transferred Calvin D. Jones, 16, to the Palm Beach County Jail after prosecutors decided to charge him as an adult. Jones was initially in custody at the Juvenile Assessment Center after his Sept. 12 arrest in connection with the alleged carjacking.

He faces charges of armed carjacking and wearing a mask while committing an offense. Jones was being held without bail late Wednesday. He initially told police that someone else committed the crime, but later confessed to using a fake handgun to rob the Kentucky Fried Chicken customer, police said in a probable-cause affidavit made public this week.

Police say a 51-year-old woman stopped at about 8 p.m. that night at the KFC at Avenue S and West Blue Heron Boulevard, just east of the Barracuda Bay Aquatic Complex. As the woman placed an order in the drive-through lane, a male allegedly approached her car and ordered her to give him the $6 she had in her hands.

The woman gave the male, later identified as Jones, the money and begged him not to shoot her, police said. Jones allegedly then snatched the woman’s iPhone from her hand and ordered her to get out of the car. He sped away while the woman ran to a restaurant door, then hid under another car, police said.

Later that night, an officer spotted the stolen car traveling east on Blue Heron, the affidavit said. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but its driver sped away, leading to a high-speed chase, police said. The car then crashed on Blue Heron near Avenue O.

Jones, who was initially identified by a different name, told officers the car had been stolen by an unknown man who fled the area. When told that there were security cameras and that he matched descriptions provided by the accuser and a witness, Jones confessed, the affidavit said.

He allegedly told officers he decided to rob the woman because he and his friend wanted money. Police did not identify Jones’ friend or say whether that person is facing charges.

The 21-year-old victim, who had been dating Albritton for three years, saw him with the other woman Sunday night at Off the Hookah on Clematis Street, according to a police report made public Thursday.

The victim then slapped Albritton in the face and walked off. He chased after her and they began to argue, the report said. Albritton started shoving the victim until a bouncer removed him from the club, the police report claims.

A suburban West Palm Beach woman was arrested after repeatedly calling 911 to report her roommate was “bothering her” by turning the light switch on and off, the Sheriff’s Office reports.

Despite multiple warnings from deputies that calling 911 was reserved for emergency situations and could lead to arrest if misused, 20-year-old Junes Rose Gines called 911 just before midnight Wednesday for the fourth time in an hour, PBSO reports.

She told the responding deputy that her roommate kept turning the light switch on and off. The deputy told Gines not to call 911 unless it was a “life or death emergency,” the report states.

She told the deputy that her roommate also repeatedly knocked on the door to bother her.

Gines told the officer that her “roommate should be arrested for turning the light switch off,” the report states.

She also told responding deputies that she “will call whenever she wants and do whatever she wants,” the report states. The deputy again explained to Gines that the calling system was reserved for emergencies.

She then picked up her cell phone and dialed 911 and put it on speakerphone. After the deputy explained to the dispatcher that the situation was contained, Gines was handcuffed and taken to Palm Beach County Jail where she remained overnight.

A suburban Delray Beach woman faces charges after she allegedly used a fraudulent check to purchase more than $4,000 worth of tires last month.

Hollie Marie Michael, 43, was arrested Friday in connection with a Sept. 8 incident at the Martino Tire business in suburban West Palm Beach.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Michael presented a check from Performance Muffler Brake and Auto Repair for $4,056.44.  She purchased 16 tires, which two unidentified men accompanying her loaded into a U-Haul truck.

The men drove away with the tires while Michael waited for the check to be processed. However, the check was declined and it was later learned that the repair shop  listed on the check was no longer in business, the sheriff’s office said.

Michael reportedly told staff at the tire store that her boss would come to pay with his credit card. She then said needed to step outside to make a phone call, according to a sheriff’s arrest report made public Monday.  After spending a few minutes on her cellphone, she allegedly ran to a car that was driven by an unidentified man.

Deputies went to Michael’s  address and met her father. After hearing of the alleged theft, Michael’s father guided deputies to his garage and showed them 43 tires that appeared to be new, the arrest report said.  The man said he believed his daughter and her boyfriend  put the tires in the garage while he was away.

Michael faces charges of grand theft and uttering a worthless check. She remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail Monday night in lieu of $4,000 bail.

The arrest report does not indicate whether anyone else will be charged.
