A 24-year-old Greenacres man’s attempt to steal beer landed him in jail this week on multiple charges.
Authorities say Celvin Mena struck another man in the head with a beer bottle Friday night after trying to steal the beer from the man’s SUV. He was arrested Saturday evening on charges of armed robbery, burglary and aggravated battery. He was being held in lieu of $31,000 bail Wednesday at the Palm Beach County Jail.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Friday outside the Circle K in the 5700 block of 10th Avenue North, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.
A 35-year-old man told sheriff’s investigators he had just bought beer from the store and put his purchase in the back seat of Toyota 4-Runner SUV. When the man got into the driver’s seat and prepared to leave, Mean allegedly open the back door to the SUV and took the beer.
The driver got to confront Mena, who then struck the man in the head with a beer bottle, deputies said. . Mena reportedly fled the scene on foot. A store employee witnessed the incident and recognized Mena as a regular customer, the sheriff’s office said.
On Saturday evening, a deputy parked at the Circle K noticed Mena walking in the area and arrested him on an outstanding warrant. The alleged victim identified Mena after being shown a photo lineup, the sheriff’s office said.
