A Belle Glade man spent the weekend in jail for beating and choking his girlfriend, then not letting her call 911, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said.
Richard McRae, 54, didn’t even tell deputies his side of the story Friday night when he was arrested. He just said “take me to jail,” according to the arrest report made public Monday. He was charged with simple battery, battery by strangulation, kidnapping, unnatural and lascivious acts and obstructing justice. McRae was released from jail Sunday on $5,000 bond.

When deputies arrived at the apartment near Southwest Avenue D in Belle Glade, a man opened the door and deputies could see a naked woman crying on a bed, the arrest report said. McRae was asked to step outside, and started yelling at the neighbor who called the sheriff’s office. Deputies told him to calm down but he was being uncooperative.
When told to head toward the sheriff’s car, McRae placed his hands behind his back and said “just arrest me,” the report said.
Deputies asked the battered victim what had happened, and she mumbled that McRae hit and choked her, according to the sheriff’s office. Her left eye and cheek were swollen.
She later told deputies that he grabbed her by the hair and stole her phone when she tried to call law enforcement. McRae took her back to his apartment and puncher her face four times, the arrest report said. She tried to leave but he wouldn’t allow her. McRae started to choke her until she was unable to breath, and when he let go, he began to take off her clothing.
McRae was arrested in 2015 for aggravated assault, but the state’s attorney chose not to file charges, according to court records.
