A man used his wits to avoid being robbed June 6 in Greenacres, according to an arrest report.

The victim was ordering food on foot at a drive-through window at the Kentucky Fried Chicken on 4507 Lake Worth Road when he was approached by Fabian G. Erazo. Erazo demanded that the man follow him “or he would kill him,” the report said.

The victim, 57, complied and followed Erazo behind an Office Depot nearby, where he was allegedly struck several times in the face with a stick, the report said.

Erazo, 49, ordered the man to go to an ATM to withdraw money. The victim instead suggested walking to the 7-Eleven at South Military Trail and Lake Worth Road to get money and Erazo agreed, the report said. Once the man entered the 7-Eleven, he went into a bathroom, locked himself in and called 911.

Erazo fled but identifying him wasn’t difficult. The victim told Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies that Erazo was a frequent customer at the pawn shop where he is employed. The pawn shop’s owner provided deputies with Erazo’s personal information.

Erazo, of Boynton Beach, is facing a charge of robbery with a weapon and is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Records show that Erazo has been sentenced to prison three times after being convicted of charges that include aggravated battery, burglary and motor vehicle theft.
