A 45-year-old Wellington man referenced the deaths of police officers while being arrested last week for causing a disturbance at a nightclub, West Palm Beach police said.
As two city police officers instructed Roderick Edwin Myrick to leave the Off The Hookah nightclub on Clematis Street early Friday, he allegedly told the officers: “There’s a lot of cops getting killed these day (sic), now I understand why.”
Myrick was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication, assault on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence. He was released Friday evening under court-ordered supervision.

According to a police arrest report made public Monday, the situation unfolded shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Friday. Club security officers told city officers working an off duty detail that Myrick was inside trying to fight another customer.
After being told to leave, Myrick walked outside, but stopped and told the officers he didn’t have to leave, the report said. The officers grabbed him by the arm and walked him to the sidewalk, off club property.
They advised Myrick that he needed to leave and go home or be subject to arrest, the report said. Myrick allegedly approached one of the officers while stating: “I will (expletive) you up.”
He was taken to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement in the process. Myrick was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center to be medically cleared, then transported to the county jail.
