A West Palm Beach man involved in two car crashes while driving with a suspended license was arrested by Palm Springs police Monday, according to an arrest report.
Shomari Alder is facing charges of hit-and-run in a crash involving injuries and knowingly driving with a suspended license. Alder, 26, remains in the Palm Beach County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $8,000 bail.
Alder crashed a Ford Mustang into the rear of a Ford SUV near the intersection of Forest Hill Boulevard and S. Congress Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, then allegedly fled the scene on foot. As Alder ran away, a witness saw the man using his cell phone “yelling for his mother to come and get him.”
The witness told police that Alder was driving too fast for conditions because of wet roads, then lost control of the Mustang before rear-ending the SUV and getting stuck underneath the vehicle.
While Palm Spring police were investigating the crash, they were contacted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office informing them that Alder had been involved in another hit-and-run incident nearby 10 minutes before the second hit-and-run crash. Alder told deputies that a vehicle struck the Mustang, then fled.
While the deputy investigated, Alder decided “not to proceed any further” and left the area, according to the arrest report. He then crashed into the SUV.
Alder told police that he fled the crash with the SUV “due to trouble with his license in Georgia” and because he did not want to be “confronted” by officers, the report said.
The unidentified occupants of the SUV were taken to JFK Medical Center.
