As a Delray Beach police officer approached Douglas Woods Sr. and began to question him Sunday, Woods allegedly clenched his fists and displayed his homemade “UFC-style” fighting gloves.

The encounter did not last long as the officer held off Woods’ advance, then ordered him to drop to his knees, according to an arrest report made public Monday. Woods, 42, was arrested on charges of assault on a law-enforcement officer and corruption by threat against a law-enforcement officer.

He was being held Monday in lieu of $11,000 bail.  Jail records show that Woods lives in St. Petersburg, but has ties to the Delray Beach area.

According to the arrest report, he  made various threats following his arrest. He allegedly told the officer that his body armor would not be adequate protection from either Woods or his associates.  His arrest came after the officer was dispatched at about 8:30 a.m. to the Dunkin Donuts on Atlantic Avenue, near the Delray Beach Tennis Center. It was reported a man was inside harassing customers and employees.

When the officer arrived,  he saw Woods standing on a nearby sidewalk and recognized him from an encounter the previous day, the report said. The officer reportedly asked Woods to put out a cigarette for his safety and for the officer’s.

It took several requests before Woods complied, the report said. When asked about the situation at Dunkin Donuts, Woods allegedly became angry, clenched his fist and  approached the officer.

He has an extensive history of assault and battery on police officers, the arrest report said.
