After discovering that someone had eaten his lunch, Lucio Hernandez grabbed a machete Sunday night and went after his roommate, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

The roommate got away, and Hernandez ended up in jail.

Deputies arrested the 44-year-old suburban Lake Worth man on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Hernandez remained at the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $7,500 bail.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to investigate  a disturbance at a mobile home community on Ferne Lane, near Lake Worth and Jog roads.  They were told that Hernandez was angry because someone had gone into the refrigerator and taken food he was saving for lunch Monday.

A 42-year-old man who lives in the home told deputies that Hernandez blamed him for the missing food. Hernandez allegedly grabbed a machete, went out to the driveway and started swing the weapon at his roommate. The roommate ran away and avoided injury.

Hernandez allegedly admitted to using the machete and said he did so because he was angry about his lunch. At the time, he appeared to be highly intoxicated and had trouble standing, deputies said.

The roommate gave deputies permission to enter the home and recover the machete, according to a sheriff’s arrest report.
