A 27-year-old Riviera Beach man was arrested last week after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend while holding the couple’s 4-month-old son.

Kendrick Markel Wyly faces charges of simple domestic battery and child abuse without great bodily injury after his arrest Friday. He was released Saturday from the Palm Beach County Jail under court-ordered supervision.

A judge also ordered that Wyly have no contact with his girlfriend or any of their children pending a Department of Children and Families investigation, court records show.

According to Riviera Beach police report made public Tuesday, Wyly dropped the 4-month-old  onto the living room carpet while trying to hold the baby and fight his girlfriend at the same time. The child was taken to the pediatric emergency room at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for observation. Paramedics treated the child’s mother at the scene for minor injuries to her face and neck.

Police say the situation unfolded when Wyly returned home intoxicated after work early Friday and tried to have sex with his girlfriend. When she refused, Wyly made derogatory comments about her two other children, prompting the woman to make similar remarks to Wyly about his other children, the report said.

An enraged Wyly allegedly pulled the woman out of bed and began punching and scratching her on the face and neck. The woman ran downstairs, opened the front door and screamed for help. She heard Wyly come down the stairs moments later, holding their son.

He attacked the woman again as she tried to retrieve the baby, police said. When the baby fell, the woman grabbed him, and ran outside and got into a neighbor’s car for safety.
