Update: Northbound and southbound lanes on the Florida Turnpike have now been shut down while crews battle a car fire, FDOT reports.
Traffic is backed up in the southbound lanes to Boynton Beach Boulevard. Traffic is backed up in the northbound lanes to Glades Road, FDOT reports.
Original post: Traffic is at a full stop on the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near Atlantic Avenue this morning, Florida Department of Transportation reports.
A car appears to be on fire and billowing smoke on the shoulder of the highway. Florida Highway Patrol has set up emergency vehicles and orange traffic cones to stop traffic, a video tweeted by our news partners at WPTV NewsChannel 5 shows.
