PALM BEACH — Two Miami men are facing charges after they allegedly stole more than $12,000 worth of tools Sunday from a town construction site.
Police arrested Terrance Lamont Jones, 47, and Admach West, 34, on charges that include grand theft, burglary to a structure and possession of burglary tools. West was being held at the Palm Beach County Jail Monday night in lieu of $23,500 bail. Jones was being held in lieu of $19,00 bail.
Their arrests came after police responded shortly after noon Sunday to reports that two men were removing power tools from a construction site in the 2500 block of South Ocean Boulevard.
A woman told police the men were putting the tools into a red Nissan Sentra. Police allegedly found West standing at the back of the red Nissan Sentra with the rear right passenger door open. A second man, later identified as Jones, began walking away from the area through the parking garage, police said.
When asked why he was at the construction site on a Sunday, West, who lists drywall installer as his occupation, allegedly told the officer he was returning some tools.
The officer turned his attention to Jones, who allegedly ignored commands from other officers and fled on foot. Jones jumped a fence near the construction site but was eventually caught and placed in handcuffs, police said.
In the meantime, West reportedly drove away in the Nissan. Officers used tire deflation sticks to slow down the vehicle. West was later found at El Vedado Road and South County Road wearing different clothing, police said.
West allegedly confessed to having the construction tools in the back seat.
Representatives from the construction company identified a core drill, four big chipping hammers, five small chipping hammers, three hammer drills and four big grinders among the stolen items, police said.
