When Joseph Sclafani stole a tow truck employee’s laptop from her desk, he told officers he didn’t know what else to do, according to a Boca Raton police report.
He explained he planned to use the laptop to barter for the items in his towed vehicle, he told police.

On Oct. 26, a 35-year-old employee left Bonnie Towing company in Boca Raton to run an errand for an hour, leaving her laptop in the office, according to police. During that time, Sclafani had an appointment to retrieve the items from his towed van, the woman told police.
When the woman returned, she confronted the 56-year-old man, but he denied taking the computer.
Security footage shows Sclafani going in and out of the office multiple times that morning while the woman was out, according to the report. On his last entry, he held an empty pink bag and when he left the building, the bag appeared to have something in it, police said.
After police reviewed the security footage, they spoke with the Sclafani, who first denied taking the laptop, but later confessed, explaining he only took it to barter for the items in his towed van.
After he returned the laptop to the business, police arrested the suburban Delray Beach man.
Sclafani was released from the Palm Beach County Jail Monday night on $3,000 bond. He faces grand theft charges.
Scalafani was previously arrested for drug possession and fleeing police, according to Palm Beach County records.
