A domestic dispute landed a suburban Lake Worth man in jail Tuesday after he allegedly tried to stab another man with a knife, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arrested Stephen Evanski, 56, on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail late Wednesday in lieu of $1,000 bail.

Deputies responded shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a domestic disturbance at the Cyrpress Lake Estates, south of Lake Worth Road and east of State Road 7.  They found Evanski trying to drive away from the community and stopped him, according to an arrest report made public Wednesday.

The accuser told deputies Evanski woke him screaming and swinging a large serrated kitchen knife at him. Evanksi allegedly chased the man with the knife, damaging furniture in the process.  The accuser told deputies Evanski tried several times to stab him during the chase.

The man escaped through the front door and called 911. Deputies had Evanski’s car towed as it was blocking traffic. While taking inventory, the deputies found a serrated knife under its front seat, the report said.

The report alleges that Evanski spontaneously said he was swing the knife around out of anger.
