Port St. Lucie Police are searching for a person who shined a green laser pointer at a Martin County Fire Rescue helicopter Monday night.

The Life Rescue helicopter was flying from Lawnwood Regional Medical Center back to Martin County when someone on the ground shined the laser at the aircraft, Sgt. Frank Sabol said in a written statement. Authorities believe the laser originated from the 2300 block of SE Brekenridge Circle.

Police talked to residents in the area, but were not able to find the person responsible.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is a felony in Florida, Sabol said.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273 TIPS.
