City police didn’t buy Jermaine Edwan Daniels’ explanation, and now he is facing charges of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and possession of burglary tools with intent to use. He was being held late Tuesday in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Daniels, 37, was allegedly inside a 2010 Toyota Camry in the 4400 block of Portofino Way, in the Laguna Lakes apartment community, at about 1:30 a.m. Friday when the car’s owner approached him and asked what he was doing, said the report, made public Tuesday.

“I thought this was Juwanna(‘s) car,” Daniels responded, according to police.

Daniels then got on a bike and pedaled away from the complex, east of Military Trail between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 45th Street, as the car owner called police. Daniels was arrested nearby and a screwdriver was found in his front pocket.

The Toyota’s owner, who said she left her vehicle unlocked, told police nothing was stolen from the car.

In October 2002, Daniels was sentenced to a year and three months in prison after being found guilty of  grand theft of a motor vehicle.
