Demetrius Jackson, who faces charges of robbery, theft and resisting an officer, refused to come to court Tuesday morning. Jackson will be held without bail in the Palm Beach County Jail until his next court appearance this morning.
Just before 10 a.m. Monday, a woman was walking along the 400 block of 47th Street, just west of Flagler Drive, according to police. She said a man, later identified as Jackson, came up to her and her child and held a bat over his head. She said Jackson demanded her purse, then pulled on it, injuring her neck.
Police found Jackson nearby and officers used a Taser on him after they said he resisted arrest. When police took him to the hospital, he allegedly told police that the woman’s purse “didn’t have that much money, anyway.”
Jackson has previously been convicted of battery, trespassing, possession of cocaine and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, according to Palm Beach County court records.
