Three Palm Beach County residents are accused of getting in a Lake Worth man’s car, threatening him with a knife and handgun and robbing him, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Kayla Lynn Flinchum, 24, Erick Trevino, 34, and Terrance Ricardo Hester, 28, were all arrested Tuesday on charges of robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim told police that he was waiting in his car for a friend in a suburban Lake Worth neighborhood, just west of Congress Avenue, when Flinchum, a Lake Worth resident, approached him asking for change. He refused, so she opened the passenger door and brandished a knife demanding money, according to the police report.
She took $85 and returned to a gold Ford Expedition parked nearby. Hester and Trevino, who was holding a black handgun, then approached the car, according to police. Hester, a Greenacres resident, stole the victim’s blue iPhone, the report states. They fled the area in the Ford and were later caught by police, according to the report.
Flinchum told police that she only committed the crime because she was afraid of Trevino. She also denied holding a knife to the victim, according to the report.
Trevino told police that Flinchum would lure victims to areas by offering sex for money and then rob them. He also said that the incident was about “payment for sex,” the report said. When the victim refused to pay, they robbed him, Trevino told police.
Trevino, a Lake Worth resident, has served time in state prison on two occasions. He served 10 years beginning in 1999 for robbery with a firearm, battery on a person 65 or older and kidnapping, among other charges. He also served three years in 2011 for cocaine possession and was released in November, according to records.
Flinchum is awaiting trial on a separate charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon from July, according to court records. She scheduled to appear in court in September.
Flinchum has served time in jail on three occasions since 2011. She spent five months in county jail in 2011 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; one month in 2012 for battery; and one month in April for grand theft.
All three remained in the Palm Beach County Jail late Wednesday. Flinchum is being held without bond; Hester is being held in lieu of $120,000 bail; and Trevino is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
