Boynton Beach Police say an 18-year-old man recorded himself beating his tied-up 17-year-old girlfriend and shared the attack on Snapchat.
Smith Dorcent, who faces charges of child abuse and false imprisonment, remains in the Palm Beach County jail on $50,000 bail, according to court records. He faces child abuse charges because his girlfriend is a minor.
Dorcent’s girlfriend, whose name is redacted from the report because of her age, told police the attack happened in May. The Department of Children and Families opened an investigation earlier after someone sent the video to them, then they turned over information to police, according to the report.
The 17-year-old told police she was at Dorcent’s home when they got into an argument because he wanted her to unlock her phone. She said he held her down on his bed, tied her hands together behind her back and beat her with a belt, laughing as she cried for him to stop, according to police.
Instead of ending the attack, he recorded it and posted it on the photo and video sharing app Snapchat, she told police.
An unidentified person told police they saw the video on Snapchat and realized it was at Dorcent’s home, so she went over to the home. When she got there, Dorcent was already walking the 17-year-old out of the home, and neither said anything about the incident.
Police arrested Dorcent at his job on Wednesday afternoon.
Dorcent does not appear to have any other criminal record in Palm Beach County, but his juvenile record is not available.
