A Riviera Beach man who allegedly drove into Palm Beach to steal a Jaguar is instead in the Palm Beach County Jail facing several charges.
Trabonte Mitchell, 19, was arrested after a license plate recognition monitor in Palm Beach alerted police that the 2001 Chrysler he was driving was stolen, according to a police report.
Mitchell, accompanied by 17- and 14-year-old males, fled police at a high rate of speed, but all three were apprehended after they ditched the car and allegedly tried to flee on foot.
Mitchell and one of the boys was found by police hiding in a shed near The Breakers hotel. The 14-year-old, who is not being named by the Post because he has not been charged as an adult, told police he had just been released from the Juvenile Assessment Center after being arrested for stealing a car.
The 17-year-old juvenile told police that Mitchell admitted the 2001 Chrysler was stolen when he got in to the vehicle. The boy added the trio smoked marijuana in the car then decided to enter Palm Beach to steal a Jaguar. He admitted breaking into several cars with the others and taking $20 from one vehicle and a purse and credit cards from another.
Mitchell is facing several charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and fleeing and eluding police. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
