As a Boynton Beach police officer approached the mall kiosk where Michael Abel Louimeus was working in December, Louimeus had just one question.
“Do I need a lawyer?” he reportedly asked.
The officer declined to give legal advice, but did check Louimeus’ identification. The officer was investigating an alleged fight between Louimeus and his roommate, according to a police arrest report made public this week.
Louimeus, 26, of Boynton Beach, was taken into custody Tuesday on a charge of aggravated battery. He was released on his own recognizance Wednesday from the Palm Beach County Jail.
On Dec. 19, police met with a man who alleged that Louimeus punched him during an argument at their apartment. The arrest report did not specify the apartment address. The roommates were arguing because another man was staying at the apartment and sleeping on their couch, the arrest report said.
The alleged victim suffered a cut over his left eye and a chipped tooth, police said. He was treated at the scene by paramedics from Boynton Beach Fire Rescue. The man told officers Louimeus worked at a kiosk for a cellphone provider at the Boynton Beach Mall.
The officer gathered Louimeus’ information, but did not ask him any questions. As the officer prepared to leave, Louimeus allegedly again asked, “Do I need a lawyer for what happened?”
The officer did not respond, but did take photos after noticing cuts on Louimeus’ knuckles, the report said.
Court records show that the Louimeus is being represented by a public defender.
