Village police arrested Matthew Howard Brown, 42, on a charge of aggravated battery.  He was released late Monday from the Palm Beach County Jail on $3,000 bond.

His arrest came after officers responded at about 6 a.m. Sunday to a reported disturbance in the 600 block of Southwind Court, north of Northlake Boulevard and west of U.S. 1.  Officers arriving at the scene reportedly found Brown with blood on his shirt and face.

They checked the inside of a home and found a woman who alleged that Brown stabbed her with the wine glass stem and burned her with cigarettes. She was taken to the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.

Brown reportedly told police he became irritated with the woman and wanted her to leave. The situation escalated with Brown reportedly picking up the woman to get her off him.  He told police a cut on the woman’s arm was self-inflicted, the report said.

He could not explain the burns to her body or the wounds on her head, police said.
