Two teens were arrested in connection to a July Lake Worth shooting that left one man injured, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Gabriel Selwyn, 18, and Simeon Porter, 18, faces charges of aggravated battery and robbery with a firearm. Porter was released from the Palm Beach County Jail on $30,000 Saturday, but Selwyn remains without bail because of another pending case, according to jail records.
On July 17, Selwyn and Porter walked into New Look Barber Shop on the 900 block of North Dixie Highway, just south of 10th Avenue, just before 7 p.m., and sat down in the barber chairs.
A 52-year-old employee said the pair asked if another employee was working that night and when he told them the individual wasn’t, the pair stood up and Porter pulled out a silver gun.
“Well, give me everything you got,” the man recalled the teen demanding, according to the report.
Selwyn came up behind the man with a gun, the man told PBSO.
The employee decided to lunge for Porter’s gun and the two wrestled over the weapon, according to the report.
Porter, then 17, attempted to flee as the employee grabbed Selwyn by the legs trying to keep him from getting away. As Porter stood outside the door, Selwyn pistol-whipped the 52-year-old when a shot went off.
The two teens ran and the employee lifted his shirt to realize he was shot in the abdomen, according to PBSO.
It is unclear from the report if the shot came from Porter or Selwyn.
Weeks later, Lantana Police notified PBSO saying they found two teens who match the description of suspects. Porter was arrested during a traffic stop and was found with a 9mm gun which was the same weapon used in the robbery. Though the 52-year-old could not identify Porter in a photo lineup, he did identify Selwyn as the teen who beat him with a gun, according to the report.
Selwyn’s mother went to detectives after her son told her about the shooting, PBSO said.
Surveillance video later confirmed that Porter was involved in the shooting that night, according to the report.
