A Lake Worth man is accused of beating his roommate and even trying to stab her during a fit of rage early Sunday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Martin Jesus Gordon, 21, was arguing loudly with his 20-year-old roommate Sunday morning, according to a probable-cause affidavit made public Tuesday. The roommate left the apartment with her brother, but soon returned after Gordon apologized for his behavior, she told police.

After she shut the apartment door, Gordon resumed arguing with the victim and punched her several times in the face, deputies said. The victim tried to hit Gordon in self-defense.

The victim’s brother tried to break up the fight by grabbing Gordon, who then went into the kitchen and brought back a knife, the affidavit said. Gordon swung the knife several times, trying to stab his roommate, while her brother held him back, the victim told police.

The brother told deputies that something “horrible” would have happened had he not held onto Gordon, the affidavit said.

The victim had redness on her forehead from where she was punched, as well as bite marks on her stomach, according to deputies.

Gordon is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple battery. He was being held late Tuesday on $13,000 bail in the Palm Beach County Jail.
