A heated argument between two West Palm Beach men escalated when one beat the other with a metal pipe, leaving him seriously injured, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Joseph Soos, 46, was arrested Thursday night for aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Soos was in a “heated verbal altercation” with the 31-year-old victim and his girlfriend at the couple’s home in unincorporated West Palm Beach, the police report states.

Soos tried hitting the victim’s girlfriend with a large metal pipe and the victim intervened, the victim told police.

The two men started fighting and Soos stuck the victim several times in the arm with the metal pipe causing serious injuries and possibly breaking his arm, according to the report. The couple then hid in a bedroom in the home while for police to arrive.

When police arrived on scene, they found blood all over the apartment and heard the victim screaming out in pain, the report states. The couple refused to open the bedroom door initially because they were afraid that the officer was Soos, the officer reports.

Frightened and covered in blood, the couple eventually opened, according to police. The injured victim was transported to JFK Medical Center for treatment.

Soos told police that he didn’t hit the victim with a pipe, but the victim injured his arm while the slammed to the ground fighting.

Soos was taken to Palm Beach County Jail and released Thursday afternoon on $75,000 bail.
